Cleared it with Altha there are two different plants called Dilly Dally , altha will, put a photo of her plant and I will also get one from the other one
BTW Carrie if you dont mind sharing your secrets for next Monday why not write a article about which F1 and F2 you would recomend from your breeding and others as well as compatibilty as well as breeding results and why you would use It as stated I am but a novice compared to you and would love to learn more as I amsure there are many more that could learn from your extensive knowledge
Looking forward to it
Carrie I refer to the plants as well as the breeders THAT I HAVE dealt with and who has extensive knowledge of there plants a case in point you would obviously not buy a Naude,s I would however and if I would I would buy it from Liz Boyd who is a utter specialists regarding that plant and its breeding results same as if I buy a 777 I would buy it from the breeder Pikkie that is why I recomend these buyers,if you go to them they will not keep secrets of the plant but will share which ads value to the purchase of the plant this I have expereinced from all these breeders

thanks Martin, I have written many of these articles for the clivia newsletters which you would have seen if you were a member of the Clivia Society. I have shared some of these articles and results  this forum as well.

Altha, if you have a Dilly Dally which you have named about five years ago, there must be two plants with the same name. If you do a search on this forum, you will see that Emmie Wittig had a Dilly Dally since before 2007.

I have not contributed to this discussion because I have little breeding experience to share .
I would like to think that I am reasonably scientific in my thinking .
I would like to meet the breeder who has kept a proper SCIENTIFIC record of outcomes of their breeding with clivias .
On average I would say a clivia produces + 50 seeds a season .
I have yet to see anyone who has kept and published a proper paper on their breeding .

We mostly see the outcomes of a few of the best  F1`s from a cross and judge the cross by these small %  .
I would like to see something like this ......

50 seeds sown .... 40 germinated ... 38 survived after 2 years , 3 flowered at 3 years ,20 at 4 years etc , etc .... these are the outcomes and then a description and photos .
A science has 2 aspects ....theory and its technology ,the proof ...... with respect , I see some truth , a little exaggeration and plenty of speculation when it comes to discussing clivia breeding .

Fact of the matter is that we know very little about clivia breeding and are too quick to hand out and accept the  label of  "expert " and to put ourselves and others on a pedestal .

When I say I am a beginner , I am not being over modest ...THIS IS A FACT and I am very grateful for this situation as I have a lot to look forward to .
My mentor Hal Watkins once said to me ... If you set yourself up as expert , beware  , others might see you as being superior and  think you know everything and be shy to share their knowledge with you
I trust this will not offend anyone , I do not mean to ....
Regards ,
              Lionel.

Sorry Martin ,
This was not aimed at you or anyone in particular .....In hind sight I should have posted my above thoughts on another post .... I will .
I have wanted to share my thoughts on why it will be difficult to do a proper scientific study on the outcomes of seed grown clivias in this new post .
It is necessary for a seller to warn that " Outcomes cannot be guaranteed " but this is not enough , I wish to explain in the new post why we at Hilton Clivias cannot do so.

Should you wish you may ask Gideon to delete or move my post .

Regards,
             Lionel.
