WDC yellow flowering
« on: September 26, 2016, 10:36:18 »
Well after carefully nurturing my most expensive clivia seed in history, the plant grew beautifully and has now flowered after 3 years and 10 months. This is from the seeds that Li Qiang was selling and was advertised as Group 1 yellow. When I had the opportunity to visit Mr. Wang Dian Chun's nursery in March this year, I was able to see the beautiful yellow clivias and also learnt that all his yellows are definitely group 2...there must have been a miscommunication or misunderstanding somewhere as when i spoke to Mr. Wang, he didn't really understand the concept of group 1 and group 2 yellows.

Nevertheless, my plant is a little cutie and I am enjoying it and it will make its first appearance at the Auckland clivia show this weekend.

Well done, Michael! I am still looking for my short bload leaed yellow. I have some promising seedlings, but the wait for them to flower is too long!

Thanks guys. Yes it is quite amazing that it grows so fast and flowers in under 4 years for me and for a Chinese plant at that. Usually I can't grow the Chinese clivias as they tend to rot in me. Worrying about that I actually grew it indoors for 3 years so that I can keep a close eye on it and it is happy as :)

Peter, hope your seedlings will reward you soon :)

I can understand your concern about rotting I have the same problem.  Will have to try more seeds and make to to make them indoor plants or at least be totally undercover all year.

What should the length and width of the WDC leaves be?

Hello Micheal,
Why you said that you learnt that all his (Wang DianChun) yellows are definitely group 2? As Mr. Wang knows nothing about g1 or g2 yellows, I am very interested to learn how you come to the conclusion, which is exactly the same with my experiments with WDC yellows. I clearly remember that about 2 years ago, there was dispute on this forum as to the genetic groups of WDC yellows. I am still looking for the possible group 1 WDC yellow, just for my personal interest of collection, but still can not find one such plant. When you visited Mr. Wang DianChun's greenhouse, why don't you buy a group 1 WDC yellow for your collection, if it did exist.
Best regards!
Wu Jin
