A beautiful gift
« on: June 24, 2016, 11:20:26 »
There was a little bit of a guessing game to decide if this baby is a Gardenii or a Caulescens.  Gardenii won the argument, if anyone has any thoughts on which of the two it may be I would love to hear them.  Whichever it is, I am of course delighted with it. The deep green and bright yellow combined make it a stand out even though the umbel and individual blooms are small.

:woohoo: I would call it GREEN GOLD
Never be defined by your past. It was just a lesson, not a life sentence.

Just from the photos I do not adjudge this a species plant but an interspecific, and with the leaf-edge bleaching, Vico in its bloodline. Is it now in bloom?
A beaut!

Thanks Roger and everyone glad you have enjoyed the images. I have some other photos of the netting effect on the base of the plant plus leaf tip shape which I will also post later on.  It isn't currently flowering now, it flowers erratically when it takes a mind to, they just pop up at any old time, the flowers pictured were from when it flowered last September but it popped up an umbel early this year from memory

Forgot to say that the flowers are tiny, not much longer than 1.5 cm.  Do you think it would be worth putting some Grp 1 Yellow pollen onto it or the reverse, there doesn't seem to be an overabundance of pollen ?

Very cute and gorgeous flowers. I agree with Roger that I might be an inter. Could you show a picture of the back of the leave and a side profile of the whole plant?

Dear Mary
If anyone out there was prepared to let you have some pollen of a Group 1 green-throat yellow I'd use that! :mmm:
I know they're scarce but they ARE out there.

May I add, I'd not be averse to experimenting with Hirao pollination either.

Thanks for your advice Roger. I have had a kind offer of Grp 1 GT Yellow pollen from one of our members so that is rather exciting.  Just need the postal police to let me get it and the plant to send up a flower and we will be in business :) I will spare a few grains of my precious Hirao pollen too :)
Michael Loh I still haven't been out to take the requested photos, the weather has been so dismal, hopefully we are due for a little sunshine in the coming days, hope so, I am beginning to feel as though I am growing moss it is so damp and bleak.

Hi Mary, from the photos it looks like there is caulescens in the mix from the growth habit and how it offsets.
