my friend's C mirabilis in flower
« on: December 23, 2015, 02:11:38 »
hi all,
i got to go visit a friend over the weekend to see his mirabilis in flower for the first time. I was like a kid in a candy store as it was the first time i got to see mirabilis flower in the flesh.
the plant is in the ground that is slightly raised with pumice added in the mix. no special treatment and it is growing well, even has a new offset growing....and we try so hard to get it to grow...

Hi Eugene,
We are in the southern part of the north island, New Zealand with a lot of winter rain and frost. Temperature at my friend's place would get down to maybe -2 or -3 in winter. Our summer gets to about mid 20s celcius. There is fairly thick Capone above where the mirabilis is planted. It has been in the ground for about 4 years I think.

Your friend is brave to plant his mirabilis in the open.  It looks like a good spot for it, though.

He was indeed. When I first found out a few years ago I thought it will surely die but I have been proven wrong.... :)
