Exciting news for me!
« on: September 24, 2015, 07:10:35 »
Ive just come back in from the garden and I have no idea what made me look but I did and to my astonishment my Nobilis is pushing buds!
I was given a small seedling as a gift in Sept 2011 since then it has produced 6 offsets of various ages.  I never expected it to flower so soon.
I cant wait to see how it colours up.

Dec  2012 - It had 11 leaves and was producing an offset
Sept 2013 - It had 3 offsets
April 2014 - It had 6 offsets
28th Jan 2015 it had 15 leaves and 6 offsets of various sizes.

Mine flowered about 4 weeks ago! So little and cute.

I however have not waited as long as you. Only 2 years but it was a good size when I got it.

Enjoy!

Just an age update, after a chat with the gift giver this Nobilis is either 7 or 8 years old now.  What is the normal age for Nobilis to flower?

...one never get used to it .
This is the impossible happening before our eyes .
Our plants have added about 4 leaves over the past 11 months .
They have gone through about 3 months of winter slumber .

Now activity is ramped up many fold with the scape and flowers making an appearance in weeks.
The sap flows ..... carrying everything that is needed for the umbel to develop.... the infinite number of different chemicals and materials as well as the instructions on how to form the umbel ie the structure of the scape, round one side ,
other side  flat  , the pointed ends and hard protective skin .
' Now stop nature instructs ....start pushing the pedicles , stop again .... now out of the tips of the pedicles , like magic the ovary forms ,  the petals ,  filaments , stamens ,pollens , stigmas ....... essentially all made  out of colourless sap ..

And one could go on for years trying to document this activity .
All is carried out in perfection , never a mistake .
What we interpret as a   mis- formed section is nothing other than  the perfect response to some previous activity .

I have estimated that the weight of the scape and umbel of flowers on most of our plants , far exceeds the weight of the new leaves that have developed over the past year .
Flowering time is a time of wonder ...... how lucky we are to be a part of it .
All that is needed , from our side at this time, is to ensure that our plants are well watered during flowering season .
Regards,
             Lionel.
