Variegated Chinese Apricot
« on: March 02, 2012, 12:05:55 »
We held the Border Interest Group AGM the other evening and one of our members brought this plant for viewing and discussion. I think it is lovely, so decided to share it with the Forum members. I have also pollinated it for the owner. Quite a few flowers have already fallen, so the umbel is not at it's best. Hopefully, my pollens will still take. The umbel must have been full and round before the flower fall.

The leaves are between 9 and 10 cm wide and between 30 and 35 cm long. Unfortunately, the leaves are a tad dusty, so the variegation is not shown at it's best.

I think it is a handsome plant with potential for breeding. What did you pollinate it with?

what a great plant.
loce the leaves and flowers, but unsure what they really look like. seems we like extremes , peachy or bonze these days, but i like it very much.
all this seed stuff is so so much tomorrow.i would be so happy to have that plant, and dream , but nothing should matter but today and tomorrow.

 :surprise: :surprise: :surprise:

Hi Michael,

I'm hoping that the plant might be split for yellow, so crossed it with a Yellow Daruma, a South African Giddy variegated Group 2 Yellow, and then also with an 18cm wide leafed Anshan Monk. Won't get yellow flowers from the last cross, but imagine the variegated broader leaves!

Just checked, there are currently 10 flowers with 11 already dropped. This is the plants first flower, although it is over 7 years old!

Did someone say patience was a virtue??
