Albany Yellow
« on: August 31, 2011, 22:40:11 »
During January 2010 I had the opportunity to visit Rodney Ellis, to view his Clivia and Orchid collection.

At the time I was able to buy my first Albany Yellow plants from him, which he marked as Yellow Queen.  Rodney told me that he has been cultivating, and intensively breeding with Clivia for 33 years.

My first Albany Yellow Clivias flowered in September 2010 and were extremely impressive.

According to Rodney the plants are excellent breeding material, as the minimal variegation produces only a very small percentage of Albino offspring.  Rodney stated that plants that do not show any variegation can produce variegated suckers and seedlings.

Stef Baie Mooi. Ek dog jy hou nie van geel nie. Hierdie is n treffer  :woohoo: :good:geel
There are 2 kinds of people. Those who work and those that take the
credit. Try to be in the first group, there's less competition.

Firstly, thanks to David for doing the placing on the forum for me. :thanks:

Your replies are much appreciated.

Li, the grade of variegation differs from plant to plant.
Green, variegated, and Akebono leaves are kept together, so the variegation genes are in all the plants.
Green plants produce variegated and green suckers as well as seedlings.

On Tuesday, Rodney gave me a beautiful, Fukerin variegated, mature plant.
A picture will follow when possible.

As Jan shows, the plants are outstanding.

More info will follow.

Thanks Jennifer.
Jan your sucker is something special!!
My first seedlings are now one year old, still covered under frost cloth, now for protection against the sun.
The Mop Head tree started making new leaves only on Tuesday, and will supply first shade this week.
Nature has a big influence on our whole plant growing procedure, should it be compared with pieces of paradise, like George or Nelspruit.
