To give our overseas friends an idea of the scale of the flooding in QLD, it is said to be an area greater than that of France and Germany combined. It is incomprehensible to try and get your head around that much water. This is supposed to be the driest continent on earth!

Does anyone know anything yet of John Craigie, his wife and Pine Mountain Nursery as it was mentioned his area was of concern?

I understand that John and Gail evacuated from their property yesterday.
No further updates as yet.

I just heard on the news - to give you some idea of the magnitude of this.
When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, the area affected was 233,000 sq. km.
The area affected in Queensland is 1,000,000+ sq.km.
It seems almost surreal that something like this could happen over here, especially after so many years of terrible drought.

Not a comparrison, but here in RSA we have lost 50> lives so far in our present flood, and much rain is still predicted in the affected areas.

Strange how there was such a serious drought and now all this rain.
I hope everyone is at least safe,  if not dry.
Sympathy to all of you experiencing this disaster.

I only became aware of this situation whilst watching part of the Cricket 20/20 match between Aus and England yesterday morning SA time. There were volunteers collecting donations from the crowd for the flood victims going around the stadium with buckets, when the commentators mentioned this disaster.

To all my Clivia friends and other people in OZ that has been affected by the flood, you have my sincere sympathy. I trust that you all are safe and that flood damage were not too severe? May God be with you all in these testing times.

Best wishes
Louis

John and Gail Craigie did suffer a direct hit re homeand Ipswich in clean up mode, water receding. They are without power for an unspecified period. I'm sure John will be here on the forum soon with quite a tale to tell, with pics.

I read that the power was intentionally cut off to prevent electrocutions and damage to the infrastructure of the power plants.  Happy to learn, so far, that their lives are spared, but sad to hear the Clivia have been affected.  May God heal all wounds.

Hi All,
Just a short note to say hello, and that all is ok here.
We are quite safe on the ridge but the devestation has been around us. A once in a blue moon event saw Toowoomba inundated and caused major damage throughout the CBD and shops along the way. The majority of Toowoomba growers are safe up on the ridges of the town well out of any real flash flooding.
Any discomfort or small losses experienced by us pales into insignificance when compared to the tragedy experienced by the communities in the Lockyer Valley, ( eastern side of Toowoomba , between Toowoomba and Brisbane).
The water ( while not fed from the Toowoomba flash flood) travelled from the upper reaches of the Toowoomba range and tore through this pristine farming land, demolishing anything in its path.
Thanks to all for thinking of us.

Regards,

Gary

Hi Gary,
Thank you for letting us all know.
It has been a very worrying time for us not knowing how everyone is, and too far away to help.
It is such a relief to hear that most have only sustained minor damage.
There are some incredibly heart wrenching stories coming out of the Lockyer Valley with the loss of lives.
I hope that the rest of the missing are located safely and have just been out of communication.

Our thoughts are with you all,

Lisa

I'm glad to hear that you were not flooded, Gary.  I can only echo Lisa Fox's words.  Best of luck to you all in the face of this disaster.
