Athri Wessels Keeled
« on: June 20, 2010, 16:59:47 »
Hi everyone

This plant I got a few years ago from Athri Wessels in Louis Trichardt and its flowering at the moment.

It has flowered consistently with this trait for the last four years.

This is probably my architecture brain talking but I'm of the opinion that the keel/crest adds extra dimention to the presentation of the flower and is more attractive than the polytepal form of the plant. Hence it is a form i seek out. If it is 100% of the flowers and persistent then so much the better. Does anyone have records of the breeding pattern of this phenomenon? It obviously "popped up" in Athri's breeding since I know she has worked with a restricted gene pool.

Very special, Altha and interesting to read, that it shows this keeled (inner) petals consistently since four years. I would be most interested in some seeds, if you have some available later. Please take me in mind. Kind regards, Joerg
