50mm third leaf Daruma LOB
« on: June 25, 2007, 05:57:19 »
This I have never seen. Stuff like this definitely fuels, oils and greases my Clivia engine.
The seed is of Chinese origin and is Daruma LOB. The third leaf is perfectly roundtip and stretches by the day. It is 50mm(2inch) in width at the moment and I wonder what will follow???

Gerhard
You should not feed them steroids so young - it stunts their intellectual growth!
Keep us updated as it grows.

Gerhard,
I think it is important that we share experience with the Chinese plants. I had a similar situation with a plant I recieved in April 2005 from Wu Jin (see 2 photos taken when I planted it). Subsequintly it is growing with all my other variegated plants outside under shade net. However, the leaves just look normal now (I will try to take a progress photo this weekend.

Maybe the trick is to keep these plants indoors and not outside in 'normal conditions'???

Very, very nice seedling Dries. Wu Jin, can you please help us out? What is the probabilities with such a seedling and what treatment do you recommend? What is the role of chlorophyll in the leaf width development because mine has quite a lot at this stage? Any input would be appreciated.

Gerhard , my Starlight LOB plants are outside under some bamboo in my garden . They get direct sunlight from 09h00 to 10h00 in the morning -- summer and winter . The starlight effect has only improved since being under these conditions .
The only thing you have to watch are leaves with large white / yellow area`s on the leaves .
Dries suggested , I move them into a darker area to see if the leaves increases in thickness .
Will be watching them .--- Keep well !

As far as I know, the trick is to place the plant in a greenhouse with ideal growing temperature (25 C during the day and 15 C during the night), with good moisture, less ventilation, and proper intense dappled sunlight that does not burn the leaves, proper feeding regularly.\
